Red leather shoes. 5-inch heels. Glamorous. Fashionable. Deadly.
Most women would want them. Most women
would run after the latest collection of these designer-shoes. There is only
one problem. The last word in the description has its denotative (literal)
meaning.
These shoes are really deadly!
They are an obsession for “The shoe man” - a rapist and murderer whose targeted women are all well-off and wear expensive designer shoes. Another common feature is that they use Facebook and Twitter to broadcast their current and future location. The rapist tracks them down using this information, brutally rapes them and then takes their shoes as a trophy.
Another woman is attacked and the
not-so-friendly detective superintendent Roy Grace puts together a team to
investigate it. Haunted by the unexplained disappearance of his own wife, the detective
heads a realistic police investigation.
The story alternates between
present and past events and the thriller “Dead like you” has all that we could
expect from a crime novel: suspense, DNA tests, psychological insights, witty
remarks, bloody scenes etc.
Life usually offers more solutions
than those presented in a modest crime novel but it’s really not the case with
this one. Read all those 500 pages and you’ll discover why this thriller is a
multi-million bestselling book!
